Eight Good Working Habits
If you want to be successful at Door-to-Door sales, it takes practice and commitment. Most Door-to-Door businesses work on a self-employment basis, which means if you don't work, you don't get paid. It's up to you to write your own paycheque. Here are eight good working habits to help you stay on track.
1. Have a Great Attitude:
It is vital to have a positive attitude when knocking on doors.
The key to your success is making people like you.
If you're not in a positive mood, who is going to like you the first time they meet you?
2. Maintain Your Attitude:
Negative people will try to ruin your day. Some do it intentionally, some do it for fun.
Don’t let anyone steal your attitude. If someone is rude, smile and say, “Sorry to bother you, have a nice day,” and walk away the winner.
3. Be on Time:
Time is money — your money. There is no good reason for being late.
If you treat your time seriously, others will take you seriously too.
4. Be Prepared:
Have everything you need before starting your day — pens, paper, ID, products, proper clothing,
good walking shoes, an umbrella if needed. You can never be too prepared.
5. Work Your Territory Correctly:
Cover your area systematically, door by door. No skipping.
This gets your “law of averages” working for you and stops you burning out your territory.
6. Work a Full 8 Hours:
The best hours to work are 12:00 pm to 8:00 pm.
Working only evenings means you miss too many people and spend too much time with the wrong ones.
7. Know What You Are Selling:
Learn every detail about your product or service.
Make a list of questions customers may ask and prepare clear answers.
The more you know, the more confident you sound — and confidence sells.
8. Take Control:
You can’t force someone to buy — you can’t push a piece of string.
You can, however, guide your customer, answer their concerns and lead them to a decision.
A good pitch and strong working habits put you in control of the sale.
